MITHRAS
The cycle Mithras was composed 2005 – 2006 and consists of 4 different pieces, Stadium, Explosion, Transformation and Evolution.
The cycle is based on a 40 seconds long four part musical material consisting of distinct characters [gestalt]. These are, for example, glissando, chromatic scale, and arpeggio. These characters always appear in new contexts, they are expanded, contracted, both vertically and horizontally, i.e. Mithras is
not a variation form because all characters always remain them selves. Each piece has one of the four parts as a focus and basis that determines the length, form, dynamics etc.

Stadium In this piece every character [gestalt] in the first part of the Mithras material gets its own stadium (period). For example the first period focuses on three chords. A choir of clarinets in the electronic music makes slow glissandos between these three chords. The first chord consists of 8 notes, 2 in each loudspeaker. Through the second chord the numbers of notes are reduced, and in the last one there are only 4 notes left, one in each loudspeaker. If you listen carefully you can hear the choir moving in the room. This process lasts for 5 minutes. On top of this the clarinet plays repeated F notes, the sometimes is allowed to flourish in ornamental relief. Each new stadium (period) has a new point of focus. Also the last stadium is worth mentioning, wish clearly consists of a falling glissando. This takes place simultaneously in 3 layers, one in the clarinet, one slow in the electronic music and one
pre-recorded clarinet.
Stadium is dedicated to Karen Heath who premiered the piece in Melbourne, Mars 23 2006

Explosion
The piece begins with a presentation of all the material in 50 seconds, this is the explosion. The next six form parts focuses on the second part of the Mithras material. These are played in an order that the musician himself has to decide and his choices effects the instrumentation. The electronic plays partly
pre-recorded electronic music; partly it effects the percussion in real time. However, the electronic part has a static form and this makes that every new musician will play a new version of the piece.
Explosion is dedicated to Johan Westerberg who premiered the piece in Malmö, 2006
Transformation
The piece is based on the third part of the Mithras material with a special focus on three characters [gestalt]; one rhythmically fast ascending figure, one melodic ascending figure and one melodic descending figure. These characters are expanded and contracted vertically in different ways all the five times they appear. This makes the three different characters transform into each other.
Transformation is dedicated to Viveca Löfgren who premiered the piece in Malmö, 2005.

Evolution
Here the basis is the forth part of the Mithras material which is presented in the exposition of the piece. After this each character is presented and developed organically until the next one takes over, i.e. an evolution. This becomes, so to speak, my proposition to what each character can be developed into. The piece ends with a recapitulation (slightly modified) of the opening. This also ends the whole cycle Mithras.
Evolution is dedicated to Samuel Magnusson premiered the piece in Malmö, 2006
